Milestones in the history of KK Wind Solutions
1978
The company founders, Kai F. Pedersen and Knud V. Jensen, build the world’s first control system for a modern wind turbine, the Riisager 22kW turbine.
1981
kk-electronic is created. A factory is built in Herning, Denmark, to meet growing demand.
1983
The company founders sell their shares to PKA, one of Denmark’s largest pension fund companies. Three decades on, PKA still owns shares in KK Wind Solutions.
1983
We develop the world’s first electronic control system for a wind turbine. It is installed in a 50kW Windmatic.
1985
Pioneering yet another area in turbine control and surveillance, we launch the industry’s first SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system for turbine monitoring, improving access to data on turbine condition and performance.
1990
We partner with Bonus Energy (later to become Siemens Wind Power), becoming its sole supplier of control systems.
1991
The first offshore wind farm in the world is built at Vindeby, Denmark, equipped with our control and surveillance systems. Today, 60% of the world’s installed offshore wind capacity operates using our control systems.
2002
A new control system for wind turbines, WTC3, is launched and becomes our key product in the following years.
2003
We establish production in Szczecin, Poland – a facility which is later been extended several times to match growing demand. Our lean production facilities in Szczecin currently employ approx. 450 people.
2004
Siemens takes over the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Bonus Energy, establishing Siemens Wind Power
2008
New headquarters and production facilities are inaugurated in Ikast, Denmark.
2010
We introduce the KK-PILOT, a new advanced SCADA system for wind turbines.
2011
We expand our presence to the growing Asian market by establishing a sales office in Korea. Another sales office in the region is opened the following year – this time in China.
2013
Our global footprint is extended further with the establishment of a sales office in Germany.
2014
An office and distribution center is opened in Kansas, USA, allowing us to better serve our North American customers and focus on further expansion.
2014
To better represent the range of competencies and services offered to customers, while remaining faithful to our heritage, kk-electronic is renamed KK Wind Solutions.
2015
KK Wind Solutions Service A/S is established to better address customers’ needs in the service area.
